It's not the ass-kicking that hurts

"In our culture, not-doing is very undervalued. It's as if one has to always be doing something in order to justify one's existence. But such compulsive doing is an avoidance of being, literally, one's true nature." - Adyashanti

5 Banger Friday is back.

It's been a while, so let's take a cruise through some of the best posts that dropped inside The Path over the past month.

Let's begin:

1. Where would you be right now if you simply did what you know you should do, every time?

You probably already know what you should do.

So, if you’re not where you know you could be, you’re either:

1. Not doing it

2. Not doing it consistently enough, for long enough

3. Or doing too many things you shouldn’t do, on top of it.

Where would you be in your life if you simply did what you know you should do, every time?

2. Healing is not a pretty process.

Most people expect the healing process to be full of warm hugs and gentle tears and watching the bound, fragmented parts of themselves finally bloom again like a flower in the sunshine.

That’s why most people never actually heal.

In reality healing looks a lot more like food poisoning:

Purging, sweating, shaking, and cursing your life as you wonder whether you’ll make it through the illness before it kills you.

Healing means de-poisoning yourself, and poison doesn’t feel good coming back up.

But the seasoned practitioner knows that this is the process of getting well, and welcomes it up and out. The novice freaks out and chokes it back down.

Deep, permanent healing is not a pretty process.

It’s a blood and guts war, and it always feels worse before it feels better.

3. “It’s not the ass-kicking itself that hurts. It’s the uncertainty of not knowing when the next ass-kicking is coming.”

This is actually pretty liberating when you allow yourself to see that what you fear is almost never as bad as you fear it will be. It’s the fear itself that is scary, not the experience.

4. If life feels stale and/or stuck...

It usually means:

1. Too much of the same activities & behaviours

2. Too much of the same energy (yang vs yin imbalance)

3. Too much of the same environment / people

(Or some combination of those three)

The solution:

1. New activities — new goals, hobbies, interests practices

2. New energy — carry yourself with more yin / yang, switch practice focus to cultivate opposite, work on a weak point

3. New environment &/ people — move, travel, meet new people, date, etc

Bring fresh energy into your life and the feeling of staleness will lift, and new inspiration will emerge.

5. Never expect it to be what you expect it to be

We never know what something will become until we actually do it. So if you’re waiting for clarity or certainty, you’ll be waiting forever.

Proof, from the business world:

Lamborghini: tractors → supercars

Play-Doh: wallpaper cleaner → children's toy

Nokia: paper mill → mobile phones

Nintendo: playing cards → video games

Wrigley: soap → chewing gum

Abercrombie & Fitch: fishing equipment → fashion

American Express: freight delivery → financial services

Samsung: groceries → electronics

Peugeot: pepper mills → automobiles

Marriott: root beer stand → hotel empire

Bang.

If you’d like to join us inside The Path, reply to let me know.

It's been nearly a year since we opened it to the public, and we have a fresh batch of retreat recordings dropping soon, including:

- Building A Modern Business
- Advanced AI Agents
- Becoming Unbound
- Invisible Influence
- The Art of Turning Desires Into Reality

Crazy good.

We're planning to open it back up sometime in the next few weeks, so let me know if you're interested.

In the meantime, have an amazing weekend over there.

You deserve it.

- T

P.S. We're also giving Path members a custom-built AI agent that has been managing my entire business for the past four weeks, while I've been resting post-retreat.

One attendee said the agent alone was worth the price of the retreat.

Conservatively, I'd say it's been worth ~20x that to me.

Stay tuned...

“In life, people tend to wait for good things to come to them. And by waiting, they miss out. Usually, what you wish for doesn't fall in your lap; it falls somewhere nearby, and you have to recognize it, stand up, and put in the time and work it takes to get to it. This isn't because the universe is cruel. It's because the universe is smart. It knows we don't appreciate things that fall into our laps.” - Neil Strauss
